Liberal Democrat Priorities for Hertfordshire

The Liberal Democrats have launched their Manifesto for Hertfordshire, which focuses on delivering the services people want. Launching the party’s manifesto, Liberal Democrat Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst (Central Watford and Oxhey), Leader of the Opposition on Hertfordshire County Council said: 

Liberal Democrat local priorities for Hertfordshire County Council are:

  • Investing budget surpluses into improved highway maintenance and repair,
  • better bus services and cross-county connections
  • reducing traffic speeds in residential areas
  • more crossing patrols and safety on the way to school
  • cutting waste and spin at County Hall
  • introducing more flexibility into the part-night lighting policy

“Liberal Democrats listen to local people and we shape our policies around what they tell us is important.

“That is why in Government

  • the Liberal Democrats have raised the basic taxable allowance to £10,000 –  to help hardworking people in today’s tough times
  • the Liberal Democrats have pegged the higher tax rate at 45% and capped taxeable claimsso the very rich are now paying more of a fair share
  • the Liberal Democrats are delivering more apprenticeships than ever beforeto provide jobs and careers for today’s young people
  • the Liberal Democrats are delivering the ‘pupil premium’giving a helping hand up to disadvantaged pupils
  • the Liberal Democrats are delivering fairer pensionswith the basic state pension increased to £144 in today’s money from 2017.”
